About

I am a native Texan who completed my residency in Memphis, Tennessee in 1998, moved back to Texas to practice internal medicine, burned out spectacularly in only three years, worked for the next seven years as a pharmaceutical research sub-investigator, and returned to the practice of medicine in 2009 with a much healthier perspective on my vocation. My Christian convictions include a belief that healing is a lifelong journey for those who are open to being honest about their need for it and that meaningful healing does not happen passively but rather requires our conscious participation in some way. Doctors function best when we’re on our own healing path, getting our needs met as we meet some of the needs of our patients. The more emotionally healthy we are, the more we can enjoy this perpetually interesting and rewarding profession. These reflections are meant to encourage my colleagues on their own healing journey.
